Think (e-Portfolio)

Lesson 7

Think
(e-Portfolio)

1. Before you began this course, what did you do (or still do)
when you needed to collect, manage,
and keep a record of citation
details of your Web research? How effective do you think these
information management strategies were?

i have been used that using bookmarking functio of computer itself.

2. In your view, what kinds of things would you want a Web research tool to be able to do?

The function of "find F" is very , I sis the shortcut funtion that i cam find the word that i am looking for.

Explore
(e-Portfolio)

It is easy to learn a new way to collect, manage, and cite your research sources. The video that follows

explains more about Google Docs and Spreadsheets. Watch it a few times, stop and
start it at critica
l points
, take some notes. Try to identify a few things about using Zotero that could make studying easier
 for you.
In the Zotero Quick Start Guide, under 'Introductory Screencasts', please watch 1) ztour, & 2) zdemo.
    I got them.

Do (ROW)

1. Have a partner. Each of you should learn to use Zotero to do two of the following things:

a) Take notes on sources
     I did it .

b) Tag or classify sources
    I did it.

c) Export an MLA formatted bibliography of sources
   I did it.

d) Highlight and annotate sources
    I did it.

2.
Watch the screencasts that describe how to complete the tasks you have
selected to learn.
Master each task: please practice until you feel
confident in your skills and understanding.
    I did it .

3.
(e-Portfolio) During practice make brief notes that you can use to help you teach your partner what to do and how to do it.
lessonA: writing the note on bookmarking.
lessonB: put on taggs on site pages by several ways.

4. You should now be ready to teach your partner what you have learned.
      I am ready!!

Explain (e-Portfolio)

Write
a
post reflecting on Zotero with reference to the four SCICU Key Questions.

1. What are the main skills needed to use Zotero?
I suppose that the management skill would be very important. Of cource there is a lot of

interesting site and we can bookmark them

but it is rare that we will visit all of there interesting sites.

Choosing what is really necessarily site for you might be critical.

2. What are the affordances of Zotero (what does it make possible, what does it impede)?

The wonderful point is how easy to use it , i sippose. Our browser's bookmarking also

has tagging function, but zetero is more effectiive and clear to categorize them.

On the other hand, I think that zetero is lack of identity. It is useful but without it we do ot  have

any trouble.

3. How can Zotero be used to network professionally and connect you (& other students) to learning resources?

I suppose that the tags shw the interest of each student. by showing each other's tags,

we can understnad who have the same theme with one.

Plus, by publishing page infomation as the form of text, we can easily exchnage our sources.

4. What skills and understandings have you learned about Zotero that may promote your development as an effective learner
in the digital age?

In fact I do not really think that zetero is very effective for me and my tasks.

In order to bookmarking and correct site, the bookemarking function of computer would be

enought for me.putting comment on sites are intesting but not important or useful.

The Explain Part of lesson6

As the lesson6 of other part are published by GDS,
I thought I should remain my blog post remail as published by GDs.
So I post other (This ) post for EXPLAI psrt of homework.

Explain (e-Portfolio)Write a post reflecting on GDS with reference to the four SCICU Key Questions.
1. What are the main skills needed to use GDS?

I suppose that the good team working is needed to
make the most of GDs when people use it in the group working.
For Example, The one one revice a part and want to listen other people
how they think about the revise that man did on GDs,
he have to send e-mail and ask them
" hey, I revised GDs's 7th sentense and picture no6. Look at it and tell
me what you thank about my revice."
Of course GDs, is very useful to share the infomation without use attackment,
however, at last what is most needed is hoe they check and communicate with
published documents on networking.

2. What are the affordances of GDS (what does it make possible, what does it impede)?
The strength of using GD is as follows.1. member can edit one document at the same time.
2.member can see and edit the document without any memory( such as USB). 3.As my PPT,
they can publish their document or pictures on their bblog or HP easily.
The weakness of using GDs are as follows.1 they are less likely to have communication.
2. It is a bit diffocult to learn all the functio of GDs.

3. How can GDS be used to network professionally and connect you (& other students) to learning resources?
The most impotant think might be a timely ckeck on GDs.
As team members do not exactly know when other team member edit the documt,
It is easy to depend on other team members and say, "Others might edit all".
If tehy share the data,, members should check GDs timely must be necesallity.

4. What skills and understandings have you learned about GDS that may promote your development as an effective learner in the digital age?
As the digital techs are on ging rapidly, it would be inportnat that we are allways
seeking new good and finctions. In the usual life " Especially when we got ot work" we do not often have chance to what kind of systems can we use and how they are useful. NMO one will
tell us and we hace to serch what the most useful service for each.
As the conclution, I suppose that love using internet and continuing loonking for somthing
useful apprication is the most importnat to study efficetively in this digital era from now on.

Thank you all class teaching and I am sorry that I can not attend class today!!

Think (e-Portfolio)

Lesson6

Think
(e-Portfolio)

Before you began this course, what did you do (or still do) when you need to collaborate with other students on a project outside of class?

In other words, what do you usually do if you want to show someone what you have done?

I have been made mailing list and share all e-mails.

I have necesality to share more big and many documents,

I made yahoo breif-case and share these documents.

What do you do if you need to work on it at the same time?

as we are all too busy, i have never have internet meeting.
At my office, we sometimes have meeting by skype .

How do you feel about doing collaborative work?
It is tough and difficult to connect our ideas.
in fact I am not very good at it.

Explore
(e-Portfolio)

It is easy to learn a new way to create, share, publish, collaborate, and access you work anywhere.
The video that follows explains more about Google Docs and Spreadsheets. Watch it a few times,
stop and start it at critical points
(the narration is fast!), take some notes.
Try to identify
two or three things about using GDS that could make studying easier for you.
by using GDs...
1, make documents on networks.
2, present document on the network
3, sending & sharing infomation to partner

I suppose that GDs is surely useful when everyone are very familiar to GDs,
it would be nice tool for collaborating.
However, it is difficult to administer & invite friends who can do someting for your
document.

3. (ROW) Take a survey. Take
a quick survey of about fifteen (15) students (classmates and others)
to find out
about a little bit about their experience of collaborating
with other students (**also ask each SCICU classmate
their email address, you will need it later**)
.
After you have collected your data, analyse it and identify similar
responses.
Group similar responses to create a few categories and tally
up the number of responses in each category.

Research Question: (Ask each student something like this) When a teacher has required you to collaborate with
other students on a project outside class,
what has been the main cause of any frustration you have experienced?

as the result the idea found out were " annoying" " tough ( to coodinate time ) .
It seems that everyone so not hate group work but
Not small numbers of people think that it is very stressful to make schedule .

4. (ROW) Put your results into a table.
In Docs Home, create a new spreadsheet. Make a simple spreadsheet to

display your results. Label the data in your spreadsheet e.g. Stumbling
blocks in collaboration, Number of responses
. You might like to refer
to this sample data sheet, however, be sure to use categories which relate to the responses that you have collected.
See next publish of spread sheet.

lesson4

Do
1. (e-Portfolio) How to use Delicious.
Take some time to view a couple of these
presentations on Delicious 1 2 3 4 (easiest first,
more detailed last). Please focus on identifying what
you already know, as well as two or three things that
you did not know, which may make studying easier for
you. You should take some notes.
I understnad how to use delcious. I already know
that delcious is a bookmarking sites however I didi
not know that tagging is such a useful thing.
I also did not nknow that many people can share
our bookmarking. For mewhat made me suprise most is
it was easy to use and edit.

2. (ROW) Personal research. Spend some time now to
search for useful resources on any aspects of social
computing (4~5 web pages is OK). Share your research
by tagging each item with 'scicu'.
i did. i bookmarked cnet.japan and monowatch
and nikoniko movie site and itokuro conpany site.

PPt for lesson5

Think (e-Portfolio)
1. Which sites do you visit regularly?
Make a list (4~5 is fine). Before you began this course,
what did you do (or still do) to keep yourself up to date
on new content posted to your favourite sites?
What I will go usually is
cnet.japan
makezine.jp http://markezine.jp/
http://www.nicovideo.jp/
manowahch http://www.j-cast.com/mono/
monometro.jp http://www.monometro.jp/

before i toka ethis class i some went these sites
on weekend and see the contents ranking which is more used
by more users.

Explore (e-Portfolio)
1. Websites that display a button similar to the ones here
on the right have an RSS feed that you can subscribe to.
Visit a few of the sites that you listed above (Think step).
Look over each site carefully, can you find an RSS button?
You might need to scroll down the page, and you will need to
look carefully if it is a 'busy' page. Which of your favourite
sites provide an RSS feed?
cnet japan i like best.

Write RSS next to each of these sites
in your list. Which ones don't?
monometro and http://www.nicovideo.jp/
does not have RSS button.

Can you think why some sites do not?
i supoose that monometro does not have the RSS
because i is promotaed by person not by company and
that site does not indent to get more and more readers
to enhance the media value.
On theother hand http://www.nicovideo.jp/
does not have RSS because it is too radically
updated and can not chatch up with the all infomation
I suppose.

2. How to collect information automatically.
Please watch this video that explains more
about RSS and how to set up Google Reader,
RSS is the tool to catch up with the infomation
which is always updated and change.
i make a page in google/readers and
I can collect my favorites site's latest topic an it.

Do
1. (ROW) SCICU set up. Please do these things:
a) Get Google Reader
i made it.

b) Subscribe to the following sites:
* Your favourite sites with RSS feeds, i.e. from Think above
I add three site wihch have RSS.
* Your classmates' e-Portfolios
I add three people's e-portfolio, Yuki's ,ken's and richika's,

* SCICU class Research Collection (i.e. items tagged 'scicu' saved and shared at Delicious)
I added it.

You might also like to subscribe to:
* Word of the day * Grammar Girl * Japan Times

2. (e-Portfolio) Personal Research. Spend sometime now searching
for some sites related to a particular personal interest connected
to study or leisure activities. Add the name of your topic to your
Record of Work for Lesson 5. Try to find 4~5 excellent web pages,
which also have an RSS button. Please select your sites critically,
the resources you choose should be genuinely useful to you. Later,
you will select one of your sources and tell the class what it is,
where you found it, and why you chose it.
http://se-rusu1.com/
http://it.nikkei.co.jp/
http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/

Please try out 2 or 3
(or more) of these search and reference sites, as well as Google.
It is useful to learn to use different search engines, which work
differently and return different results and present the results
to you in different ways. As a researcher you need to be familiar
with range of search tools, even if Google remains your first choice.
I used
KartOO Squidoo ChaCha BlinkBits
billobe yaho google livedoor

Save and share your research. Save the most useful and interesting
sites you find to Delicious by tagging each web page with 'scicu',
this will mean that your discoveries will appear in the Class Web Box.
Please also note that you should post a minimum 20 resources during
the course to our shared research collection maintained at Delicious.
As outlined in Course Information, this is worth 5% of your
total score for SCICU

Lesson2

Think (SCICU e-Portfolio)
Before you began this course,
what arrangements did you make (or still do) to try and ensure that
you could do any work you wanted to do during the day?
I downloaded some tool bars to make it easy to get some extensions.
And i ask some people what kind of extensions they are using and why.
Many boys said they do not link too much tool bars are set around the
Browsers and girls love to get as much as extensions.
I found the difference is interesting.

Explore (SCICU e-Portfolio)
View a couple of these screenshot tours 1 2 3 4 showing
how different users have developed a personal work environment in Firebox (FF).
Take notes on some of the features that look interesting.
It is interesting but frightening that Fire Fox re-present the site which I saw it
last time I used FF. I suppose as not always one person use the PC, it is
dangerous to show the page which is last time shown from the point of view of security of information.

Do (ROW)
1. Install Portable Firefox on your USB drive
(If you regularly work on a Mac you might be interested
in Portable Firefox for Mac). Please see this video.
It is interesting that there is portable version of FF.
At first I could not understand why there is portable version but I understood that
some computer do not allow people to install FF
if it does not need much time , but for the security reason.

2. Some basic requirements: Make the SCICU homepage
and Web box and the DIY Textbook your FF Home Pages. Open each of the three preceding pages
in a new tab in FF (Ctrl +click). Go to Tools≫Options≫Main. Click 'Use Current Pages'.
I did. It is easy and nice to use digital text because I do not have to bring
a amount of package from my house!

3. Install the extensions below. Extensions are small add-ons that add new functionality
to Firefox, from a simple toolbar button to a completely new feature. They allow you to
customize Firefox according to your needs and preferences.
I thought it is annoying that I could not see even usual movies without ad-ons.
Plus some ad-ons are not very fit with my Vista Windows. That is terrible!!

4. Add 2 or 3 more extensions (you can also add more later) to begin developing Firefox
into your own PLE. (Tools≫Add-ons≫See All Recommended Add-ons). I encourage you
to browse the categories (on the left hand side of the add-ons page) and look especially
for add-ons that may be useful for researching, studying, and completing your university work. Michael Calore recommends Research Word, which "gives Firefox a handy contextual menu item to look up words and phrases in a variety of sources. Select the word you want to lookup, then right-click it to access definitions from Wikipedia, Google Definitions, IMDb, and more. For the science majors there’s Biotech, which offers some links and tools for people wanting to research in the field of Biotechnology." Inline Google Definitions is much simpler than Research Word, and shows Google definitions for the selected word.
I putted "Kabodle" ad-on. It is item-based bookmarking button. It is popularin america. It is cool and interesting ! As I did not know that google had it ad-ons, I suprised a lot!

Explain (SCICU e-Portfolio)
1. What are the main skills needed to use your PLE?
I have to get the knowledge which ad-on is most suitable for my purpose
as there are a lot of ad-ons are prepared.

2. What are the affordances of your PLE (what does it make possible,
what does it impede)?
It is very useful especially I have to use the PC I can not install FF to
bring my FF in my memory, However it is a bit heavy to bring FF( It cost more than 6M!)
Plus I use 10 or more memories, is sometimes difficult to bring FF always.

3. How can your PLE be used to network professionally
and connect you (& other students) to learning resources?
PLE allows me to reach the information I want as rapid as possible.
It is true that I can find the same information whatever kind of PC or Browsers i use,
but it is most easy to use same FF that I customize.

4. What skills and understandings have you learned from creating a
PLE that may promote your development as an effective learner in the digital age?
It is important to decide what is necessarily for my FF or not,
I realize that what is important is very different people by people. i have to customize
and organize my office environment inside of PC by myself,.

Lesson 1: Introduction to Social Networks

Think (SCICU e-Portfolio)
1. Social software.
Which websites in the picture (top) are familiar to you?
I have my account in digg.com, face book, and Twitter. Also I love Wikip
edia and veoh.com. In the veoh.com, you can enjoy whole famous anime movies
with free of charge.

What do you think social software is?
I suppose social software is CMS to enhance people's communication.

What do you think makes social software social?
I think the accessibility is critical to make social software social. T
he more easy to access it ,the more that software would be developed by unco
untable people's knowledge.

2. Social Networks. How would you define a network?
I define network is "some amount of information which linked with exte
rnal information". For example, our existence itself is also a form of info
rmation. However, we are not connecting each other. We are kind of "indepen
dent "block of information. On the other hand, the every page of internet w
orld is connecting to other page usually and form one space of information.
So internet can be said one of network.
What is social about a social network?
Social means "no one owns it ",I suppose. For example, your twitter p
age is composed by many undefined people's idea and information. One can pr
ovide information and one can also be given information. I think in the soci
al network, it is important that no one is owner or spokes man, but everyone
have the right and ability to change the system, say One's opinion, and pr
ovide information.

Explore (SCICU e-Portfolio)
Please watch this video on social software. Do you know of a recent
situation in which knowledge has become available first through social
media?
For example, I know some actors and athletes announce their retirement
on their blogs.

Please watch this video on social networks. Make notes on what you think
the key words are?
I think the keyword is "hidden/visible relationship" because that is t
he strongest characteristic of social networks.
Please watch this video on social & technological change in the world
today (now). What were three things that surprised you? Why?
What surprised me most was the fact that 10 subject out of all the subj
ect we leaning in the university have not existed 10years before because I r
ealized that "this" curriculum is the universal and only one system of uni
versity.
What impressed me next was the next question:" can you image 10yaers f
rom now what students are studying in the university?" In fact, I cannot. B
ut I image that no matter the subject name will change, people who tried har
d will enjoy the study most.
. Thirdly I was shocked the data that the all of the information which
is packed in the brains of people who are more about 21years old (that is
me!) are provided by e-information. I myself did not thought that I am
always using and correcting information though PC, that data was very
interesting.

Do (SCICU e-Portfolio)
Draw on your current understanding of social software, social networks,
and your understanding of the changes in 'Shift Happens' to write your own
rationale for choosing to learn how to use social software for learning.
Social software:
the tool to organize the relationship with people
Social networks:
The relationship which is visibly linked.
How to study social networks:
I would like to study social networks by internet communication
especially through SNS, such as mixi, face book or kauno.com because
SNS is not directly profitable for advertisement companies, it is
more easy to generate pure community of people.

lesson3

Think (SCICU)
Before you began this course,
what arrangements did you make (or still do) to be able to show to others (and to yourself), what you know and what you can do?
I read 2007s's e-portfolio and understnad what I will make.
Then I Made blogger account and write some e-portfolio.
I also make presentation secreen and finish it.

Explore (SCICU)
1. Do you need an e-portfolio?
Please watch this presentation.
(This presentation describes the use of a wiki, while you will use a blog for this e-portfolio)
I suppose tI have to write e-portfolio, because I have to keep make it claer what I
am doing now.
Fiertsly, I have to realize my logic.By writing e-portfolio, I can make ir sure my logic
for example why I thint so or what example I can show people.
Secondly, I have understand amount of each infomation. I should not write toomuch
ammount of intoroduction and should write ehought amount of disccion.
E-portfolio is useful to make it claer what I doing and useful to achive nice presentation.

2. What are the main advantages and disadvantages
you see in having an e-portfolio in addition to
(or in place of) a traditional resume? Please see some of the examples below.
Agenda is basically infomation and I can not understnad what is going or what the
presentaer want to say. On the other hand, e-Portfolio contains why the purpose of that
presentation or why they can suggest next example. We should make e-portfolio because
we can image our presentation and it would be good practice of real presentation.

Do (ROW)
1. Set up a blog as your e-portfolio.
I did. The URL is http://e-portfolio-bebaby.blogspot.com/.
Please watch this video. When your blog is set up, please do these things:
For Social Computing:
2. Change the title of your blog to something more 'you'. (>Dashboard>Settings>Basic>Title)
3. Complete the main parts of your Profile. (>Dashboard>Edit Profile)
4. Add a picture of yourself to your Profile. A picture of you in profile (i.e. side on) or a somewhat disguised picture is fine, but you should be recognisable to people in SCICU and to others who know you personally. (>Dashboard>Edit Photo)
5. Put links to the SCICU Homepage, Class Web Box, and the DIY Textbook. (Dashboard>Layout>Add a Gadget>Link List)
For yourself:
I did.
6. Spend some time thinking about and developing the content of your e-portfolio,
so it reflects a little bit about you and what you can do, that you want others to know.
I did .
what I want to do is to show how to use and enjoy didd.com and explain how we can
make much of that functions in real life.

Explain (SCICU)
Write a post reflecting on your blog as an e-Portfolio
with reference to the four SCICU Key Questions.

1. What are the main skills needed to use your e-Portfolio?
the skill to explain something clearly.Esepecially, why and how is the most important
to explain to others because people can understand your intention by listing the reason.
2. What are the affordances of your e-Portfolio (what does it make possible,
what does it impede)?

the environment which allow me to use PPT 2007.
and I need some10 minutes to achive this presentaion.
3. How can the technology be used to network professionally and connect you
(& other students) to learning resources?
I googled some infomation about this site such as who arepromoting or why it is dangerous.
However,I do not reallu willing to everyone to use this site while i am having presenation
because they might concentrate on their net surfing.

4. What learned skills and understandings may promote
your development as an effective learner in the digital age?
i learned skill of built a simple logic in this class especially when I write
e-portfolio, usually i do not think about why or because How ever when I am prepareing presentauon.
I have to all the time think about it.
I suppose it is important skill to use digital tool to learn something and this leason was very
meaningful for me tto develop my understnadings.

2nd

Then I would like to start my Presentation.
The title is "How to use Digg? How can use Digg?"
I want to talk to you not only the way enjoy this site but also
what purpose you can use this site.
Then, let's start!!

Firstly,I want to clearfy most basic point.
what "digg"means?
"digg "means bookmarking & shareing.
So in a word, this site, digg.com is a bookmarking site.
There are a lot of bookmarking sites, however,
what characteristic about Digg is
you can put comments on other's bookmarking.
Today, this function is not so new
but 2004, when Digg starts, it was very revolutional idea for people.
Digg is the very first site which starts bookmark sharing.

How is it popular?
This is a graph which shows how many people visit Digg.com this 6months.
This one is amazon.com and this one is NewYorkTimes.com.
As you can see, Digghave been got one of third number of amazon visiters
and as much as numbers of visiters with NewYorkTimes.com.
It can be said that Digg.con is very famous and popular.
At the same time, you will know Digg' s visiter are little by little declineing now.
This is a very basic point about Digg.com. Did you understnad what it is?
Then, I will show you How to use Digg.

Before you login, what can you do is just to read topics which someone bookmarked.
you can find interesting topics rather easily
because every topic is someone fond of it.
Plus, you can choose popular topic by the number of people
who bookmarked that topic.
More people bookmark it, it might be inetersting news.

Not only text pages,
but you can also find blogs, photos, and movies.
Theme is basically about daily news
but they also have entereinment categories such as,"lifeStyle""Gameing"or"Sports".

Ater login, there are three thing that you can do.
The first activity you can is writing comments on topics.
you can write any comments, any time on any topics.

Secondly, you can bookmark by yourself.
Let's bookmark now!
Stepone-write the URL.Two,choose the media-text,movie,or photo.
Three,you should write a commets,
such as why itis important or what kind of comments you expect.
Four, you should choose category which the topic will belongs to.
Then, push the button, Done.
Soon you will see someone write a comments responding to your topic.

Thirdly, you can choose your frineds and see their activity on your user page.
You can know what they said , what they bookmarked.
Besides you can know who comments on your topics.
By useing your user page, you can built more deep relationship with youe e-friends.

However, there are also some problems with Digg.
the most serious one is-fighting on comments.
As you can write any commets on any topics,
some people write uncomfortable comments to topics.
For example, please look is case. This is a sled about election of American President.
Then, this commets come...
Other people stopped all discussion on this slad. This is clearly bothering of communication.

What is the possible solution for this?
One, every slad has "Bury" button.
If you find the uncomfortable comments, you should put this button.
Then managemt team will come and delete thses comments.
Perhaps they will stop the acount who wrote unpleasant comments all the time.
As this is community on internet world,
You should do something to keep peace of Digg.

Second solution is more easy.
Do not care much.
In fact , when people seriously treat that kind of trouble,
the criminals will be glad to be responded.
Do not react to much. Then everyone will forget.

I told about trouble in Digg, but there are more posibility in this site.
For example, you can use recommendation function and
tell your friends news which seems that frinds like.
Or you can customize your page and see anly topics
which belongs to some categories which you have chosen.
Also you can search bookmarking.
It would be useful when you like to exchange ideas with others on a particular topic.

As a conclution, what purpose you can use this site?
In a word," Just enjoy is OK. Do not be serious. "
It is true that Digg is inetersting and easy to join.
If you do not want to built strong relation with your e-frinds or
do not take complicated step to communicate with them,
Digg i sthe best way to start the social networking activity.
However, the information on Digg is not 100% ture.
Not all commenters are saying what they are really thinking of.
Digg is not suitable for gathering information or ask for serous advise.
